The cathedral stands in silence, its vaulted ceilings rising beyond the reach of candlelight. Stone columns carved centuries ago hold the weight of the roof and the weight of memory. Outside, rain falls softly against the leaded windows.
Bold weight for emphasis within running text, callouts, and key phrases that deserve prominence without breaking the contemplative flow.
Italic for attributions, asides, and moments of quiet reflection that drift through the text like incense smoke through an empty chapel.
In the hush between two notes of the organ, the whole cathedral listens. Stone remembers every voice that has risen through it. The candle burns lower, and the light grows warmer, and the silence becomes a kind of singing.
The central aisle stretches toward the altar, flanked by columns that rise like ancient trees turned to stone. Every footstep echoes against the vaulted ceiling above.
Enter the nave →At midday the western rose floods the transept with color. Ruby, sapphire, and amber light pools on the flagstones in patterns that shift with the passing hours.
View the window →Beneath the choir lies a second church, older and quieter. The crypt holds the bones of bishops and the silence of centuries pressed into cool stone.
Descend below →Evening prayers have been moved to the Lady Chapel while restoration of the choir stalls continues through Advent.
The north transept flying buttresses have been fully restored. The scaffolding will be removed by the feast of St. Martin.
Due to dry conditions in the scriptorium, open flames are restricted to the nave and side chapels until further notice.
The bell tower is closed to visitors following structural concerns in the western staircase. Bellringers should use the eastern access only.
