The Sahara stretches across eleven countries and nearly nine million square kilometers. It is the largest hot desert on Earth, a place where temperatures can soar past fifty degrees Celsius and rain may not fall for years at a time. Yet it is far from empty. Beneath its surface lie ancient aquifers, and within its vast expanse are rocky plateaus, gravel plains, sand seas called ergs, and oases where date palms cluster around springs of clear water.

Siwa Oasis

An ancient settlement cradled by the Western Desert, where freshwater springs sustain date palms and olive groves amid the endless sand seas of the Great Sand Sea.

Culture

Tuareg Caravans

The Blue People of the desert have crossed the Sahara for centuries, navigating by stars and sand patterns along ancient trade routes connecting oasis towns.

Featured Expedition

The Tanezrouft: Land of Thirst

Known as the "Land of Terror," the Tanezrouft basin is one of the most desolate regions of the Sahara. Stretching across southern Algeria, it offers an unbroken panorama of flat, featureless reg where mirages dance on the horizon and the silence is absolute. For the prepared traveler, it reveals a stark beauty unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Alerts & Notifications

Messages that carry across the desert -- clear, vital, unmistakable against the warm sand tones

Desert Information

The Sahara covers approximately 9.2 million square kilometers, making it roughly the size of the United States. Temperatures can exceed 50 degrees Celsius during the day and drop below freezing at night.

Oasis Located

Fresh water source confirmed 12 kilometers northeast. The caravan route is clear, and camp preparations are underway beneath the date palms.

Sandstorm Warning

A sirocco wind system is approaching from the south. Secure all equipment and seek shelter. Visibility will be reduced to near zero for the next several hours.

Critical: Water Supply

Water reserves have fallen below the minimum threshold for this route. The expedition cannot continue until resupply is confirmed. Immediate action required.
